A No Bullshit Food Review of Mr. Lyon’s Steakhouse

When oxtail bone marrow is on the menu, it piques your interest. Living up to its hype, it must be a top contender for “Best of Mr. Lyon’s” menu. Located on Palm Canyon Drive next to the V Hotel, this restaurant has a little something for everyone.

Four separate rooms make up its foundation.

1- A behind the curtain type of speakeasy, almost creates a vibe of a place to be seen, or a hideaway from the downtown crowd.

2- A dimmed bar full of laughter and conversation.

3- A private room for overflow or private parties.

4- The main dining room with green and soft grey horseshoe style booths.

Each area inviting in its own sense and style.

Drinks were up first. I spoke of ordering a glass of champagne for a pre-appetizer, which led to one brought to the table without questioning my desired by-the-glass menu choice. At least that was made up for in the wine department.

The wedge salad lacked greens, you know, lettuce, which is surprising for this main staple on a steak house menu. The table shared mains of Beef Wellington and Prime Rib, and sides of mashed potatoes and spinach. Finding the prime rib slightly above average, however the Beef Wellington with foie gras was nicely prepared and something we recommend. It is not a common menu item. There is room for improvement on the presentation, but we found that was the case for most places visited in the Palm Springs area. One thing we can agree on the oxtail bone marrow appetizer was ?  !

Overall, Mr. Lyon’s has a good vibe. Dining options are nice, especially if you want to sit at the bar and dine- a good option if you are traveling alone or on business. The restaurant is not suited for children. Casual groups of friends, business associates, and festival goers will find this to be a nice steakhouse option.

The homemade mint ice cream covered in hot fudge for dessert receives a hallelujah – totally worth the calories- you must order your own.

Reservations recommended.

What we love.
