With a private drive leading to the entrance of Palais Farag Hotel, you will immediately feel welcome and slightly intoxicated with the ambience. The dining room provides an intimate, elegant setting with a nice view and pairs quite nicely with the lovely and extensive local wine list offering a variety of grape choices to be accompany dinner selections. You will find the staff to be friendly and attentive and a perfect contrast to the busy Medina of Fes, Morocco.
Having enjoyed local cuisine for lunch, you will welcome the International Menu alongside a Moroccan w/ Asian influence menu. We started with the Traditional Chinese Steamers, which are adequate to share for two and prepared with local seafood. All the dishes were decoratively presented. Sharing the Duck Breast with Orange Sauce and the The John Dory, to take advantage of fresh seafood and their take on duck breast. Both were nice, however slightly dry and inconsistent with the menu description and what was actually served as the meal.
The Moroccan rosé chosen was a nice balance to the meal, as we found wines of the region to be pleasantly enjoyable. Creme Brûlée and Mille Feuille were ordered for dessert, and the only disappointing course of the meal. The pastry was more of a cookie, and the creme brûlée was cold and did not offer a beautiful presentation as all the others did.
The Palais Farag Hotel is recommended for couple, groups, or friends. Not a setting if traveling with young children. The restaurant can become a bit noisy as guests fill it up, however the lighting and presentation balance it out. If you enjoy happy hour, this is a pleasant option to enjoy a cocktail at the bar, something we highly recommend.
